Christmas Letter 2011

Dear Friends and Family,

Five years ago I bought Michelle a pedal harp, under the condition that she would record a Christmas CD that we could send out with our Christmas cards, so I wouldn't have to wrist a Christmas letter for once. That year, and every year since, she has had an excuse for not doint it: "I have too many other projects this year," "My recording software doesn't work with our new computer," "My fingers are bleeding," "I'm pregnant"....I swear, some people will do anything to get out of a little work. This year I threatened her with a breach of contract lawsuit and told her if she didn't do it I would give her harp to some poor children in Africa. Lucky for her I also found out that my partner's son was a recording engineering whiz, studying down at the UofU, and he was nice enough to record her in one of the chanber halls on campus.

So now I'm writing a leter, explaing why I'm not writing a letter. It's a good thing too, because Whitney and Dane have done absolutely nothing funny or cute this year. (I'm goint to have to bring that up with them at the annual Festivus Airing of Grievances next week. Actually, Dane does mostly poop where he's supposted to now, and I guess that's kind of cute. And Whitney got baptized a few months ago, but she didn't do anything to make in funny or entertaining, like doing a cannonball or something.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the music. Have a Merry Chistmas

(Here's one of the songs from the CD. If you ask Michelle nicely she'll probably burn you a CD with the others.)

Books I've Read - Investigating the Book of Mormon Witnesses - Richard Lloyd Anderson

Investigating the Book of Mormon Witnesses - Richard Lloyd Anderson

"No testimony of direct revelation in the word's history is better documented than the testimony of the Book of Mormon witnesses." And yet critics of the Book of Mormon tend to either ignore the witnesses completely, dismiss them as crazy, or rely on hearsay and second hand quotes, instead of the vast first hand accounts from the witnesses themselves, to portray their experience with the golden plates as less than legitimate. After reading this book, any other explanation for the existence of the Book of Mormon, other than the one given by Joseph Smith and the witnesses to the golden plates, seem less and less plausible. In fact, I have never come across any adequate, alternate explanation for why these 11 respectable men would all go to their graves swearing they had seen the golden plates (Fawn Brodie's best explanation was Joseph Smith's powerful "talent at hypnosis), especially since most of the witnesses at some time had bitter partings with the Church and with Joseph Smith, and had every reason to expose the "fraud" if it wasn't true, and yet they didn't. I'm very glad thankful for the Book of Mormon Witnesses, and that God has given us so much proof for the Book of Mormon, and doesn't require us to believe in it "just 'cause".

Books I Can Remember that I’ve Read (In no particular order)

I'm only counting text books if I read the entire thing.
I'm counting books that I read more than half of, but stopped because I couldn't stomach it (Lolita) or just because I hated it(Moby Dick). I'm not counting books that are mostly pictures (The Cat in the Hat), although they are still some of my favorite books. I'm counting books twice if I read them both in English and in Spanish. Also, I'm not counting the Bathroom Readers; mostly because I'm ashamed of how much time I spend on the pot. I've read almost all of them though.
